ROCKET RANGE IN AUSTRALIA

MAPPING FROM AIR PROPOSED

CANBERRA, January 24. An early start will be made with the plotting of the rocket range in central Australia, where extensive tests are to be carried out by British and Australian scientists.

The mapping work will be carried out by a Mosquito aircraft which has been ordered off air mapping surveys in centra] Queensland fo give immediate priority to the rocket range.

In the early stages of the experiments under Lieutenant-General J. F. Evetts, the leader of the British scientific team, the range will extend for 500 miles so that control of the huge missiles can be perfected before they are dispatched l on longer journeys. The ultimate length of the range will be 3000 miles, taking in a large expanse of the Indian Ocean.
