CYCLONE OFF N.S.W. COAST

HEAVY SEAS AND GALES (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 23. A cyclone has moved south from Queensland to pound the New South Wales coast to-day. Big seas are already running over the breakwaters as far south as Coff’s Harbour. Shipping has been warned. The centre of the cyclone was reported this afternoon to have halted 50 miles off the coast, and less than 150 miles from Brisbane. Heavy seas and gales to-day destroyed' power lines between Gladstone and the Clarence river, but due to the sparsely settled nature of the district little damage to property has yet beert reported.
