SPITZBERGEN TREATY
JOINT DEFENCE PROPOSAL NORWAY’S STATEMENT ( Rec. io pjn.) OSLO, Jan. 17. A statement on Spitzbergen by the Norwegian Government substantially confirms the communique issued by the Tass Agency on the Russian-Nor-, wegian joint defence measures, but adds that any agreement between Russia and Norway for the military use Spitzbergen would be conditional on approval by Britain, America, France, Holland, Sweden, and Denmark.
