OFFICIAL FORECASTS " The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON. January 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is i as follows: t Situation: an anti-cyclone covers New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m.: light to moderate winds, north-wester-lies predominating on the coast. Weather fair to fine and mild. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate westerly winds, gradually tending northerly. Some scattered rain in South Westland, but weather otherwise fair to cloudy. Temperatures mild. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and warm with a light easterly breeze. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and there was a light north-easterly-breeze. The barometer at 30.1 inches (1019.3 millibars) was steady.
