Forde nad taken over a new business, and was serviced by Turnbull, to whom he paid » uras of money. Forde did not at first notice that he was being overcharged- but on December 31 Jie became suspicious, and interviewed the manager of the firm. It was then found that while Turnbull was overcharging Forde, he was paying the correct amounts to the firm. The difference was £43 19s 2d. Accused was making his thirty-ninth appearance in Court; > ‘ Turnbull was remanrfed in custody to January 22, the Probation Officer to furnish a report. IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT George Edgar Pengelly, aged 49 years, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing an •electric iron valued at £2 10s, the property of the New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Association, Ltd. Pengelly was fined £5, in default 14 days* imprisonment. TRAFFIC BREACHES For riding unlighted cycles at night, Thomas James Dwyer, John Herbert Preston Philpott, and Eric Trueman were each fined 20s; and Roy Asprey, Gavin Coffey, Ronald Goslin, Elsie Reid, and Ronald Charles Warren, 10s each. For failing to report an accident, Leslie James Day was fined £2, and for driving without due care and attention he was fined £4. Lawrence William de Roq was fined 20s for proceeding against the traffic lights, and Richard Lindsay Moffitt was fined -30 s for having insufficient lights on his motor-car. Clifford Roy Smith was fined 20s for parking in a prohibited area. Charged with not having a driver’s licence, no warrant of fitness, and with parking within six feet of a fireplug, Augustus Watts was fined 10s on each charge. Horace Charles Eaton was fined 20s for not having a driver’s licence. \For failing to give way .to traffic approaching on the right, the following fines were imposed: Alan William ' McDonald, . £3; Robert George Standeven.' 30s; lan William John Begg, 20s; Cecil Scott Peate, 20s. Donald Leslie McDowell was fined £2 for driving without due care and attention, and William Joyce Queree £3 for dangerous driving. CHARGES DISMISSED A charge against John Selwyn Smith, of driving a motofr-cycle without due care and and a charge against Thomas Grattan Anthony Tansey, of alighting from a motor-car on the righthand side, were both dismissed.
