NORTHERN STEAMSHIP COMPANY ** The Press ” Special Service AUCKLAND. January 16. To ’ investigate the possibility of obtaining new vessels for the Northern Steamship Company’s fleet, the companys’ engineer, Mr H. R. Frith, will leave this, morning by the Pan American Airways clipper Lightfoot for San Francisco, en toute to Canada add possibly England. Replacements were required by the company, said the chairman of directors, Mr E. H. Rhodes, last night. The company had not been able to obtain them here and Mr Frith was going overseas to “see what there was in the Jtaie of ships.” Mr Rhodes would not say what type of ships were wanted or on what runs they would be used if obtained.
