WATERFRONT DISPUTE

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF UNION

MEETING WITH CABINET LIKELY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan.* 15. Arrangements were practically* complete to-night for Cabinet to confer with the national council of the Waterside Workers* Union to-morrow morning. This will be the first time union leaders have met any member of the Government since December 23, when the national executive conferred with the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan). The union’s national council continued its meeting to-day, and the executive of the Federation of Labour also met.

The Cabinet had a six-hour session, during which the waterfront dispute was one of the subjects discussed. No party in the dispute had any statement to make on developments. Waterside officials continue to address meetings of other unions to enlist their support.
