THEFTS FROM SHOPS AND HOUSES

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 13. A crime wave in Auckland is at its height, and thieves every night are becoming more daring. The latest offences include the smashing with a traffic parking sign of plate-glass windows in Wyndham street, a few yards from Queen street, at 2 o’clock yesterday morning, the blowing of a safe in Eden terrace, the theft of property valued at £22s'from a home in Onehunga at midnight on Friday, and the breaking and entering of a lingerie shop in Queen street, where £3 ivas taken. Thieves also broke into firemises in Karangahape road, but nothng was stolen.
