ALLEGATIONS OF SABOTAGE
DAMAGE TO TRAWLERS SOLD TO DUTCH (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 12. Six Australian seamen in one of five trawlers recently bought by the Dutch Government from the Royal Australian Navy, charge that the ships were sabotaged in Sydney yesterday on their way to the Netherlands East Indies where, they will be used for scientific purposes, including fishery research. The men’s claims were that one lifeboat davit had been broken, puttied up, and painted over. Machinery in another trawler had been tampered with, live wires left uncovered, and the nuts and bolts loosened. One trawler broke down and was towed into port. The men are convinced that the damage was not accidental
