UNITY AMONG SOCIALISTS
ADDRESS BY BRITISH PARTY OFFICIAL (Rec. 10 p.m.) . LONDON, Jan. 9. Appealing for Socialist unity, Mr Dennis Healey, secretary of the International Department of the British Labour Party, told the Italian Socialists’ Congress in Rome “that the end of socialism on the European continent would bring civil war, just the same as the elimination of Great Britain as a Great Power would make World War III.” Mr Healey also said that Britain’s foreign policy was still subject to acute controversy inside the Labour Party itself, “but.” he added, “I can assure you that there is no danger whatsoever of such private disagreements being allowed to weaken the party in the face of external enemies. We are arranging to give up power in India, Burma, and Egypt, and are transferring political power as fast as possible to the colonies.”
