SHEFFIELD RAINFALL
I How the farmers have been handi- ' capped by rain since September is shown in figures supplied by Mr A. W. Adams. Sheffield. The rain recorded, he said, was:—September, 4.37 inches on 13 days; October, 4.56 inches on 16 days; November, 4.4 inches on 20 days; .December, 3.39 inches on 15 days. Rain thus fell on 64 out of the 122 days, and only twice was more than one inch recorded in a day. Only about an inch and a half came from the north-west. The period, moreover, covered lambing, shearing, and haymaking. Frosts had also left the orchards almost bare; .a frost of 12 degrees in October had been followed by frosts ol 12, 15, and 11 degrees in November. This month the rainfall figures for January 5, 6. 7. 8, and 9 were .42 inches, .35, .02, .25, and 1.31, a total of 2.35 inches, the latter fall coming from the north-west, which was unusual
