“ BRIDE SHIP ” AT AUCKLAND

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 10. One of the last Australian “bride ships,” the Marine Phoenix, arrived in Auckland this morning en route to San Francisco. Eighty-five per cent, of the 560 passengers were women, mostly fiancees, and some wives of American servicemen. Although travelling under more or less troopship conditions, the girls had no complaints about the travelling conditions. The Marine Phoenix will make two more trips to New Zealand and Australia before replacement by the Matson liners, which are now being overhauled.
