DAIRY WORKERS DISPUTE

NO AGREEMENT IN CONCILIATION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 10, Dairy factory workers and employers in conciliation to-day failed to reach agreement on the major issues of wage rates and classification of workers, and at midday the council adjourned to enable the parties to confer separately. The workers’ claim for more than double time on Sunday under certain conditions was refused by the employers, who said they were not prepared to agree to more than double time. The proposals at the moment stand at the workers’ claim for a basic rate cf £5 15s a week, ’ their suggested classification of workers and overtime at time and a half for the first eight hours and double thereafter, and the employers’ last counter-proposal of a basic rate_of £5 6s 8d to be increased at the end of the first season by Is Bd, ancl at-tlie’erid of thb second season by a further Is Bd, provided the worker remains in- the employ of the same . factory. .
