INTERNAL STRIFE IN GREECE
WARNING GIVEN BY MONTGOMERY
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 4. Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery, who yesterday received honorary degrees at Athens University j in a speech, warned the Greeks against the folly of internal strife, says the Athens correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph.” In ancient days, he said, the period of Greece’s greatness was short owing to continued feuds between powerful factions. He advised them to profit from the lessons of tneir past. Field-Marshal Montgomery arrived in Udine to-day and was met by the British officer commahding the Allied troops in the Venezia Giulia area, Lieutenant-Genetal Sir John Harding. All roads between Udine and Duiho were blocked an hour before FieldMarshal Montgomery’s arrival. A request was made to correspondents not to speculate whether Field-Marshal Montgomery’s visit to the Italian area would extend beyond the Venezia Giulia area or on the duration of the visit. Field-Marshal Montgomery is making a courtesy call on the United States 88th Division and inspecting and addressing British troops and conferring with ofircers.
