LEAGUE FOR HARD OF HEARING

In spite of the poorness of the season, exhibits at the summer show held yesterday by the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing were well up to the usual standard. At a “bring and buy” held in conjunction with the show about £27 was raised. This money will start a fund for a portable group hearing aid. In addition to this amount, the young people’s group made £5 10s with a miscellaneous stall.

Prizes consisted of plants given by Nairn’s Nurseries, Ltd. bulbs given by Mrs E. L. King, and hand-painted certificates given by Mr W Wilson Many plants were given by various organisations for the “bring and buy” stall. The judges were Mrs E L. King and Mr P. C. Browne. The award for the premier bloom was won by Mr C. H. Barton, who also won the cup for most points in the show. Other prizewinners were as follows:—cut flowers, Mr Barton 1, Mrs E Williamson 2; fruit and vegetables. Mr D Lyons' 1, Mrs C. Parson 2; decorative. Miss K. Scott 1, Miss E. Ash 2.
