INDECENT ASSAULT ON GIRL

MAN ADMITTED TO PROBATION (P.A.) GISBORNE, November 12. Jeffrey Elroy Fraser, aged 32, who changed his plea to guilty of indecent assault on an eight-year-old girl on October 18 at Gisborne, was admitted to probation forr three years by the Chief Justice (Mr Justice O’Leary) in the Supreme Court to-day. The prisoner is to ’ remain under the care of the probation officer and the strict supervision of his father. Counsel said that prisoner had been an inmate of a mental home, and had only a child’s mentality. The prisoner was an inrhate from September, 1938, to June, 1939, when his condition enabled him to be released on probation.

His Honour said the fact that the prisoner had been in the home made his action a little different from other cases of the kind.
