JUNIOR GIRLS’ RECORD BROKEN (PA.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 1. Jean Cockroft, aged 13, of Invercargill, broke the New Zealand 75 • yards junior girls’ backstroke record in a special attempt. Her time was 62 1-5 seconds. The previous record of 65 seconds was held jointly by M. Walker, of Southland, and N. Payne, of Otago.
