Government Reports Improvement DISTURBANCE IN BOMBAY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 31. The Bengal Government in a communique says that the improvement in .the situation in Calcutta has been maintained. Trams ran on main routes under military escort. There were fewer signs of panic and tension. Police recovered three bodies from drains and manholes in south-east Calcutta. During a clash between two hostile groups in the suburb of Howrah police fired, killing one person and injuring six. Sixteen persons were arrested.

Reuter’s Calcutta correspondent says that seven persons were killed and 43 injured in incidents in Calcutta up to 9 p.m. local time.

Tiie Bengal Government has withdrawn permission for the Bengal Press Advisory Committee, which is an unofficial body representing Calcutta newspapers, to release news of communal disturbances, because it allegedly distributed exaggerated and inaccurate accounts of recent disturbances in Noakhali and Tippera. It is officially stated that the Bombay police fired 83 rounds and troops 14 rounds to-night, injured 13 persons, when a crowd attacked policemen who were escorting of cattle.
