COMPLAINTS BY FILIPINOS

U.S. POLICE RAIDS ON HOMES

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) MANILA, Oct. 30. Charges by several hundred Palawan Island residents that United States military police who did not , have search warrants raided 65 homes there, drew a reply from the 13th Air Force that “lack of knowledge of the law” was responsible. The Palawan petition further charged that the military police beat householders, dragged them from their beds, detained them illegally, and violated other civil rights of Filipinos. The Air Force statement, which was based on a report by a board of inquiry, promised that military personnel who knowingly conducted illegal searches, would be disciplined.
