Throughout his tour, teachers were well satisfied with the arrangements made between the Education Department and the institute fbr assisting in rehabilitation, Mr Cartwright said. The men themselves were a fine type. They were keen, and seemed to have a breadth of vision through their travels and experience which would be an ifiva^i a ble asset to the profession. . There were cases of teachers working in very difficult conditions. Mr Cartwright continued. Accommodation and transport were the greatest problems m remote areas. He referred to one school. 30 miles from Dargavillp where no public transport service was available, and the teacher was compelled to close the school to gO shopping when a farmer in the neighbourhood happened to be going to town, and then on°n the srhool on Saturdav tn recover the lost time.
