VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 30. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Freyberg, attended by Miss Rosemary Eley and FlightLieutenant Michael Cole, left Wellington by train to-day to pay an official visit to Hamilton. The Prime Minister (the Bt. Hon. P. Fraser) left Christchurch yesterday morning by special aircraft for Wellington. He was accompanied by the Hon. E. T. Tirikatene. The Jion. P. C. Webb, retiring member of Parliament for Buller, was entertained by Barrytown residents recently and presented with a box containing gold studs and a gold tiepin, made from West Coast wood, gold and paua shells. The box is inlaid with polished paua shell squares. The chairman of the newly formed Public Service Commission, Dr. R. M. Campbell, completed the last stage of his journey from London yesterday whep he arrived from Sydney by fly-ing-boat. He will take up his duties in Wellington on November 1 His wife and two children are returning to New Zealand by sea.— (P.A.) Mr A. P. O’Shea, secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, has beeq appointed general secretary of Federated Farmers.—(P.A.) Mr Frank H. Drewitt, of Wellington, was elected president of the New Zealand Licensed Victuallers’ Association at the annual conference yesterday in succession to Mr E. Dunn, who has retired after several years’ service.— (P. 4. ' ' Sympathy with the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) in his illness was ex-r pressed yesterday by tjie Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council. Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon has been reappointed representative of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council on the National Patriotic Fund Board.
