The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue is as follows: Situation: there is an anti-cyclone over south-east Australia and a deep depression south-east of New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m.: south-westerly winds, fresh about Banks Peninsula, elsewhere moderate. Scattered showers in the ranges and Banks Peninsula, elsewhere weather fair. Temperatures cool. WEST CQAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate or fresh westerlies. Weather cloudy and cool, with occasional showers.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine yesterday, with sunshine and passing cloud. Therg was a moderate south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 55 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast, and light rain was falling. There was a light west-north-west wind. The barometer was steady at 29.55 in (1000.7 millibars).
