Election of Miners’ President.— In Newcastle, New South Wales, Mr H. Wells, general president of the Miners’ Federation and a prominent member of the Communist Party, neglected to pay his dues before nominations for the election of a general president closed. Although the money has now been paid, anti-Communist lodges are opposing giving Mr Wells a concession not usually enjoyed, and he may not be permitted to stand.— Sydney, October 30.
British Home Fleet Manoeuvres.— “The depleted Home Fleet left Invergorden for the first post-war autumn manoeuvres to rehearse the type of fighting that the Navy expected in the invasion of Japan,” says the “Daily Express.” The chief operations will be air and submarine attacks on ships as they refuel.”—London, October 30.
