BIG YACHT FOR LYTTELTON

WAITANGI BOUGHT IN AUCKLAND “ The Press ” Special Service AUCKLAND, October 29. One of Auckland’s oldest and finest yachts, the A class keeler Waitangi, has been sold by Messrs J. H. Frater and C. S. Tewsley to a Christchurch buyer. The Waitangi was designed and built in Auckland by Mr Robert Logan, sen., in 1893 for Messrs D. Georgeson' and Jameson ot Wellington. She made her maiaen voyage to Wellington in six days 18 hours, with Mr Logan at the helm. The Waitangi’s length is 48ft. She has a beam of lift and a depth of 7ft 9in. After several successful seasons at Wellington the Waitangi was purchased by a syndicate and brought back to Auckland. While she was in Wellington the Waitangi’s cutter, rig was altered to yawl, but on her return the cutter rig was replaced, and the cockpit was lengthened. In her present condition the old craft is a striking testimony to the wof'k of Mr Logan, and her racing successes, particularly in heavy weather, have proved the design. Extensive alterations will be made to the Waitangi before she leaves for Lyttelton. The new owner intends to give her a cutter rig. He will cruise around Auckland for about a month before taking the Waitangi to Lyttelton about the middle of December.

YACHT ROVER ON WAY FROM NELSON

The yacht Rover, of Nelson, has been bought by Miss E. M. Blakiston, of Christchurch, and is now en route from Nelson to Lyttelton. The yacht was last reported sheltering near Port Underwood. It was formerly owned by Mr Swanston, of Nelson. The Rover is cutter-rigged and is 21ft 6in long with a beam of 9ft 6in. Lieutenant A. K. Griffith, R.N.V.R., is bringing the Rover to Lyttelton, and Mr Swanston is a member of the crew.
