WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Redcliffs.—At the monthly meeting of the Redcliffs branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, Mrs Palmer gresided over a good attendance of memers. An interesting debate was held, the speakers being Mesdames Hindle and Barker, and Mesdames Carter and Dowler. The subject was: “That in view of the chaotic state of world affairs under the direction of man, the complete control of state should be placed in the hands of women.” It was decided to send donations to the Leper Fund and to the housekeeper fund. Members were asked to leave tins of food with the secretary who would have them packed to send to England. A wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs Carter. Mrs Reid and Mrs Sail conducted an amusing competition, which was won by Mesdames Haste, Miles, Brewins, Dowler and Ebert. Other competitions held during the afternoon resulted as follows:—vase of anemones: Mrs Dowler 1; small boy’s trousers: Mrs Palmer 1, Mrs Miles 2. Mrs Dowler 3; useful articles in match-box: Mrs Reid 1. Mrs Sail 2, Mrs Turner 3.

Six women constables and a sergeant were recently appointed to the Royal Ulster Constabulary on equal terms with men.
