COMMUNISTS’ HOMES SEARCHED

SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE RAIDS (Rec. 10 p.m.) CAPE TOWN, Sept. 23. Police raided thq Communist Party offices in Cape Town and private homes of Communists throughout the country. They were reported to be searching for documents involving the commission of offences against the laws of the country. The Minister of Justice (Mr H. G. Lawrence) said that the raids on the ‘Communist Party resulted from evidence which the Government had acquired during the recent strike of 50,000 native mine workers. He denied that the police action represented “anti-Red” activity on the Government’s part.
