SMALL YACHT CAPSIZED

MISHAP IN LYTTELTON HARBOUR When a small centreboard yacht capsized in the upper part of Lyttelton harbour during the north-west gale yesterday morning the occupants, two young men, had a narrow escape from drowning. Their plight was seen from the shore and a dinghy put out and picked them up, after they had been clinging to the capsized boat for one and a half hours. The dinghy was unable to make its way back and the party landed on Quail Island. Meanwhile, the alarm had been given to the Lyttelton police, and a launch was sent across, but was unable to take the party off because of the low tide. The men while clinging to the capsized boat had discarded their clothing, and when they were landed in Lyttelton in the afternoon they were clad in sacks.
