CZECH CLAIMS ON HUNGARY
The Hungarian Political and Territorial Commission granted Hungary permission to reply to Czechoslovakia’s claim to an area of land across the Danube opposite Bratislava. Hungary argued that Czechoslovakia already had a bridgehead sufficient for its purpose, and that the five villages demanded were too far from Bratislava to be required for extension of the city. Czechoslovakia’s claim appeared to be made for offensive purposes, and Hungary therefore asked for its rejection because the claim infringed the part of the Atlantic Charter relating to territorial expansion. The commission adjourned. Earlier, the Hungarian Political and Territorial Commission agreed to insert in a clause which nans propaganda hostile to the United Nations the words “including revisionist propaganda.” Mr Clementis (Czechoslovakia) declared that there still existed in’Hungary revisionism, baseu on the Magyar minority in Czechoslovakia. He accused Hungary of exerting pressure on Slovaks in Hungary in order to discourage them from applying for transfer to Slovakia under the Czechoslovak agreement for the exchange of equal numbers of Slovaks and Magyars. * Hungary and Jugoslavia have signed an agreement to exchange 13,000 Hungarians living in Jugoslavia for an equal number of Jugoslavs living in Hungary. The agreement comes into effect a year after the signing of the Hungarian peade treaty, and will be carried out over three years. Jugo-
slavia has withdrawn an amendment to the Hungarian treaty covering the exchange of populations.
