COMPENSATION BY ITALY

“BRITAIN WILL NOT RETRACT CLAIMS ” (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, September 21. “Britain will not join France and America in retracting her. claims for full compensation for the property of Allied nationals in Italy,” says Reuter’s Paris correspondent “Britain takes the view that Italy should pay compensation in lire, which will not be a hardship, and also that there is room for adjustment in individual cases. “Britain is anxious to establish the principle of Italy’s full liability. It is pointed out that a decision relating to Italy, where British assets are relatively small, would be a precedent for the Balkans, where British assets are considerable.”
