JUGOSLAVS TO TRY ARCHBISHOP

POPE SENDS ENVOY TO BELGRADE LONDON, September 20. It is officially stated in Belgrade that the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Jugoslavia (Archbishop Alojzijc Stepinac) has been indicted “for crimes against the people and the State.” The trial will begin on September 29, when he will be the principal defendant in the trial of alleged Croat terrorists which was adjourned on September 18 to allow an investigation of the charges against him. The Rome correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Agency says that when the news of Archbishop Stepinac’s arrest reached the Vatican to-day the Pope sent an American bishop, Dr. Patrick Hurley, Papal Envoy to Belgrade,- who is at Vatican City for a rest, by special aeroplane to Belgrade.
