OBITUARY Mr Robert Carson, superintendent of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade for the last 17 years, died suddenly at his home early yesterday morning. Born in Lyttelton 59 years ago, Mr Carson attended the Lyttelton Borough School. On leaving school he was apprenticed to a blacksmith, but later entered the plumbing business. Joining the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade as a messenger in 1904, he held practically every office in the brigade. He Was awarded the gold star for 25 years’ service 17 years ago, soon after he was elected to the position of superintendent in succession to his brother, Mr W. G. Carson, whose death occurred a few weeks ago. He was a life member of the Lyttelton Marine Band, a member of the Canterbury Kilwinning Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Loyal City of Norwich Oddfellows* Lodge. Mr Carson is survived by Mrs Carson and by one son, Mr s. E. Carson, and four daughters, Mesdames R. W. Roberts (Christchurch), J. E. Adams, F. A. Stechman. H. Ayers (Lyttelton). Seaman Sentenced Charged at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday with disorderly behaviour While (drunk, Ronald Francis Hickey, a seaman, ‘Was convicted and sentenced to one' month's imprisonment. On a further charge of' assaulting Harry Victor McMillan, he was convicted and sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment, the terms of the sentences to be concurrent.
