MISSING STUDENT
—t REPORTS AFTER 17 MONTHS (P.A.) AUCKLAND September 20. Reports have been received by the police that Miss Jean Marie Martin, aged 24, a part-time student at Victoria University College who disappeared in Wellington 17 months ago. had been seen in Auckland oh two occasions this month Miss Martin, whose parents, Mr and Mrs M. Martin, live at Waipawa, vanished after she had gone into Wilton’s bush at Wadestown to study botany on Sunday. April 8, 1945. It was thought she might be suffering from loss of memory or a mental breakdown. On the morning of September 2 Mrs Kendall, of Mount Albert, met a young woman answering Miss Martin’s description near the corner of Balmoral and Dominion roads. Sh'e said she had lost her purse and did not have any money to get into town. She added that she was a nurse at Green Lane HospitaF Inquiries made at the hospital failed to trace her. The following day Mrs M. G.' Levesque, of Onehunga. was spoken to by a young woman closely resembling Miss Martin’s description. The woman seemed to be unable to say who she was and behaved in an abnormal manner.
The experiences of both Mrs Kendall and Mrs Levesque came to the notice of Mrs G. Roberts, of St. Heliers. who is a cousin of Miss Martin s mother, and were reported to the Tnouiries are being pursued.
