INDUSTRIES IN ARGENTINA

INCREASED STATE CONTROL GENERAL PERON’S OBJECTIVE p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 17. The Argentine President (General Peron), speaking in connexion with the signing of the agreement with Britain under which British capital will gradually be retired from Argentina's railway system, emphasised that his objective was State control of as much of Argentina’s industry as possible, and the domination of the remainder by Government regulated private capital. Extolling the progress of nationalisation during the four months ho had been President. General Peron declared that before his six years' term ended not an inch of soil nor a breath of air in Argentina would fail to belons' to the people. General Peron’s statement came amidst an accelerated official drive for State control of basic industries, and follows a Ministerial pronouncement that the labour unions are Government controlled and must obev orders, and also threatening the major Argentine newspapers if they continue to object to nationalisation policies.
