Sir William Clark, who is to investigate Dominions Office establishments in the Dominions and report upon staffing and other questions, was the first British High Commissioner to take office when he went to Canada in 1928. Sir William Clark retired from the Dominions Office in 1940. He is a director of a number of shipping and banking firms. He will visit New Zealand in the course of his tour, which is being undertaken at the personal request of Lord Addison, Secretary of State for the Dominions.—London, September 17. tßie Hon. Avra M. Warren, United States Minister to New Zealand, flew from Wellington to Christchurch yesterday to give an address to the W.E.A. In an international series. He will return to Wellington by air to-day. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air ViceMarshal A. de T. Nevill, who recently attended defence talks in London and subsequently visited J the R.N.Z.A.F. occupation squadron in Japan is expected to return to New Zealand by air to-day. He is travelling in an aircraft of No. 41 (Transport) Squadron from Whenuapai, which picked him up at Singapore, and tool? him to Japan. The aircraft is expected to leave Brisbane at 8 o’clock this morning. It will take Air Vice-Marshal Nevill to Paraparaumu, near Wellington, before returning to Whenuapai.— (P.A.)
Mr T. H. Lawn .was unanimously elected chairman for the 1847 New Zealand Industries Fair by the council of .the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association last evening.
