—A bill prolin nf a
yiding for the setting up of a board to administer compensation moneys in the Ngaitahu settlement will probably be introduced in the House of Representatives late this week or next week. It is understood that the bill has been drafted in the light of discussions between the member of Parliament fqr Southern Maori (the Hon. E. T. Tinkatene) and leaders of the Maori people in the district. Under the settlement, which was given legislative effect in. 1944, two of the annual sums of £ 10,000 have been paid by the Government to the Native Trustee, who is holding it in trust until the board to administer the fund is set ud. —(F.OJ’JL)
