HARD OF HEARING LEAGUE

Two very enjoyable entertainments were recently given for members of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of HearThe first of these was an evening performance when Mr E. J. McLaughlin gave a general travel talk with special reference to Rumania and Russia. Mr McLaughlin spoke of his experiences in Rumania in the early days of the war, describing the conditions under which the people lived, the mode of life of the more wealthy classes, and of the peasantry, their food, their educational system, and recreations. Mr McLaughlin then went pn to speak of conditions in Russia at this time. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker, who was introduced by Mr R. McGregor. TJhe second entertainment was an afternoon concert, kindly arranged by Mrs Nelson Kerr. There was a large attendance, the members of the audience being able, by means of the group hearing aid, to enjoy to the full the items offered. The programme opened with vocal and instrumental items by Mrs Nelson Kerr, Mrs Chapman, and Mrs Mason. These were followed by an amusing one-act play, the caste consisting of Mesdames F. Shaw, W Reader. F. Cooper, A. Doig, S, APowell, and W- Carlisle. The amusing situations and repartee were much appreciated by the members pf the qudience who often, through inability to hear, lose much of the fun of life.
