EXAMINATIONS AT UNIVERSITY
HEAVY ENTRIES THIS YEAR
The largest number of candidates ever examined by Canterbury University College will sit examinations next month. For many years all examinations were conducted by the University of New Zealand. Then provision was made for examination by the colleges of students in stage one subjects. This year Canterbury University College will set examinations for stages one and two of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees and also for intermediate stages in certain professional courses, which may be taken at the college. “Subject entries total 3075 and the actual number of examination papers required is 6180,” said the Rector (Professor A. H. Tocker) yesterday. “Last year, when we examined in stage one only, there were 2500 papers. This is easily a record for the number of papers we have had to arrange ourselves. The October examinations usually take a fortnight; but this year they will take at least two and a half weeks. Then advanced examinations will come on in November.**
