SOCIAL SECURITY REGISTRARS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, September 17. The second annual conference of Registrars of Social Security was opened in Wellington to-day. by the Minister in charge (the Hon. W. E. Parry), who said the department’s staff now numbered 1400, compared with a staff of 200 for the former Pensions Department in 1936. Mr Parry said from his early adult years he realised the need for humanitarian legislation to cover the needs and emergencies of the people. He fought with all his power for the principles of real social security, and it gave him great pleasure to administer the Social Security Act, which was great humanitarian legislation. However, if there were still anomalies in the act they must be removed.
