WRESTLING
MELLER BEATS PENCHEFF Herb Meller (U.S.A.), 17st, beat George Pencheff (Australia), 16st 21b, in the professional wrestling contest at the Civic Theatre last night. There was a fairly large attendance. Meller won the bout on points, after each wrestler had obtained a fall. ■ w . The bout was seldom spectacular, but was always interesting. For the first four rounds, Pencheff was the more aggressive of the two, and had the support of most of the spectators. Although much lighter -than his oppement, Pencheff gained a big advantage tn mis nimbleness. Pencheff’s most effective form of assamt is the drop-kick, and he put it into action time and time again. After a series of flying tackles and drop-kicks, he dropped Meller in the third round, and obtained the first fall of the bout with a full nelson. Some fairly solid wrestling was seen in the next three rounds, but in the seventh the contestants came to light with some thrills. It was in this round that Meller, after causing Pencheff plenty of trouble with a half Boston crab, secured a .fall with his “atomic” drop. This is his specialty hold. .1 . Meller definitely had the better of it in the final round, and Pencheff could seldom escape from an applied arm stretch. It was the points gained in this round that gave Meller the bout.
