BOXING

MURPHY RECEIVES OFFER FROM U.S. (P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 17. Bos Murphy, at present in Dunedin training under the well-known instructor Archie Leckie, has received a cabled offer of bouts in the United States from a Minneapolis promoter. Murphy is seriously considering his offer. It was stated that good bouts in Minneapolis attracted gates of from 40,000 to 60,000 dollars, 50 per cent, of which was split by the boxers. In the meantime Murphy is anxious to meet Ernie Roderick, British Empire wel-ter-weight champion, with whom negotiations are in progress for a bout in New Zealand for a purse qf £3OOO.
