USE OF GLOBAL RESOURCES

CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE MR TRUMAN’S REQUEST TO UNO (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 18. Mr Truman asked the United Nations Economic and Social Council to summon a world scientific conference in the latter half of 1947, somewhere in the United States, to consider the conservation and utilisation of global resources, including the peaceful uses of atomic energy. “A real or exaggerated fear of a shortage of resources and declining standards of living in the past has involved nations in war,” said Mr Truman. “Every member of the United Nations is interested in preventing a recurrence of that fear and those consequences.”
