STEEL INDUSTRY IN BRITAIN
NATIONALISATION NOT EXPECTED
LONDON, September 13. Finding that nationalisation of the steel industry was too big a job. the Government, according to the political correspondent of the “Daily Mail,” has decided on a compromise policy of acquiring a majority shareholding in the main steel companies with power to appoint Government directors. The methods by which the shares will be taken over are not yet worked out, but it is already certain that the industry will retail a large element of private enterprise representation.
