It is estimated that 90 per cent, of the voters polled in small towns and villages throughout the British zone in the elections for borough and parish councils to replace the present nomin-* ated bodies. The latest party positions in the British zone elections are: Votes. Independents .. .. 947,751 Social Democrats .. 470,962 Christian Democrats .. 378,134 Centre Party .. .. 41,061 Free Democrats .. 40,366 Communists .. 16,018 The Christian Democrats are leading in the French zone and the Russiansponsored Socialist Unity Party in the two Russian zone provinces. The town districts are voting later. Elections are also being held in all districts in the French zone and in the Russian zone, municipalities of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg.
