OFFICIAL FORECASTS “ The Press " Special Service WELLINGTON. September 16. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 10 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: there is an anti-cyclone over the north-west Tasman Sea. A cold front is advancing north-east-wards over the South Island. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate variable winds Weather fair, with moderate day temperatures. The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate variable winds, southwestern es predominating. Weather clcudy, with occasional showers developing from the south. Temperatures moderate.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and sunny yesterday with a light south-west wind in the morning and a light north-easterly later m the day. The maximum temperature was 56.9 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear with a light north-east wind. The barometer was steady at ».80in (1609.1 millibars).
