NEW SHUNTING LINB SUGGESTED
The construction of a shunting railway line between Middleton and Sockburn is being urged on the Railways Department by the public relations officer of the Christchurch City Council (Mr T. H. Langford), the Expansion and Development Committee reported to the’ Christchurch City Council last evening. The committee considered this most important for immediate development, as also the extension of the Christchurch railway freight charges area. The committee reported that it understood the extension of Blenheim road, as a new access road into the city from the south, could now be proceeded with and suggested that this should be synchronised with the construction of the traffic outlet to the north. “The committee looks upon these as minor, though important, works, and has urged on the Regional Planning Council the necessity of giving No. 1 priority to the Tunnel road,” the committee added.
