TEACHERS’ SALARY SCALE

FINAL NEGOTIATIONS THIS WEEK It is expected that negotiations for a new salary scale for all school teachers in New Zealand will be completed this week, and that an early announcement will be made. On Wednesday, teachers’ representatives will meet ths Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) to discuss final details, and it is also likely that a meeting will be held with the Stabilisation Commission to seek their approval for the plan in general. Two of the chief advantages, which it is hoped to derive from the new scheme, are a unified salary scale for all types of teachers—in primary, secondary, and technical schools—and simplification of grading to lessen the frequent transfers necessary at present for teachers to secure promotion.
