PRESENTATION OF MEDALS Modern music examinations demanded a considerably higher standard of knowledge than was the case in his youth said Dr. Vernon Griffiths who presided last evening over a gathering of successful candidates in the recent Trinity College examinations. It was regrettable, he said, that the public was not sensible to the debt owed to the painstaking efforts of Christchurch music teachers, who were responsible for the high standard of musical performance in the younger generation. Local teachers, he said, were as good as any who practised in cities of equivalent size in Great Britain.
Mr Edgar Moy. the examiner for the Trinity College of Music, thanked the candidates and teachers for their support of the institution, and gave a brief outline of the college’s history. He warned the successful musicians against permitting their studies to lapse with the attainment of Trinity College recognition, and urged them to continue their musical education for as long as was possible. It was his opinion. said Mr Moy. that there \frere no incompetent music teachers in Christchurch. so high had been the general standard of competition work. Three Trinity College medals of merit were presented at the close of the evening, the recipients being:— gold medallist, Judith Hollander (higher local honours). Silver medallist: Rosamunde A. Connal (intermedi-
