Good Catches of Whitebait
During the last week there have been some good catches of whitebait in the lower reaches of the Buller river at Westport and streams in the Charleston district. One woman fishing in the Buller river netted in one day 45 pints of whitebait, while others fishing nearby also made good catchesOn Wednesday and Thursday, in the Charleston stream, fishermen secured kerosene tins full in seme instances, while other catches varied from IS to 20 pints- Moat Of the whitebait was sent to the Christchurch market, and members of the Buller Rugby football i team, which left far Christchurch on Thursday evening, took a considerable quantity for friends and relatives in Christchurch. The price a pint ruling on the river on Thursday was from 3s to 4s, while in the fish shops the price was Is in excess of river prices.
