VALUABLE ARMY EQUIPMENT
WHOLESALE DUMPING IN QUEENSLAND
(Rec. 10.30 pjn.) DARWIN. Sept. 12. Evidence of wholesale dumping of valuable Army equipment was given when three men were charged In th* Darwin Court with unlawful possession of goods. Their defence was that, by visiting abandoned Army dumps the men, who were brothers, got enough iron and heavy timber louvres to build a house. A stove, a refrigerator cabinet, a bath, a table, and a 1000-gallon tank also came from deserted Army camps. A constable said that In one abandoned dump he saw 4p hot boxes, 10 gear-boxes, 20 generators, six boxes of new electric light globes, and 300 axeheads. A former soldier admitted throwing into a waterhole, under orders, articles which included an electric grindstone, a radio set, a motor generator, stoves, and cooking utensils. The magistrate found the case proved, but did not convict the accused.
