BOXING
PROFESSIONAL CONTEST ROBERTSON BEATS ENDICOTT A professional bout between Henry Robertson (Christchurch), list 41b, and Frank Endicott (Australia), lost 121 b, ended in a win for Robertson at the end of the eighth round, when the referee. Mr E. Pocock, acting on medical advice, stopped the contest. In the second round, Robertson opened up a cut over Endicott’s right eye, and the Australian fought at a disadvantage from then on. The first round opened quietly. Robertson, who made the fighting, led a straight left that did not appear to carry much weight. As the fight went on, Robertson became more confident, and scored with a straight left, which he followed with a right rip to the body. In the early rounds it was evident that Endicott s main stock-in-trade was a vicious right chop, which narrowly missed its mark. The boxing was open and clean, but always Robertson made the fighting and frequently he shot out a straight left which he followed with a right swing. Endicott bled freely after Robertson had opened up a cut over an eye, and this affected the Australian’s vision. Robertson kept up a relentless attack, and at no stage did Endicott appear a match for the New Zealander, who beat him to the punch and scored repeatedly with lefts and rights to the head, and heavy rights to the body. Endicott appeared tired in the seventh round, and Robertson, clearly the master, narrowly missed with an upperAt the end of the eighth round Endicott was examined by a doctor, who refused to allow him to continue the fight.
